Change of Address

When you move, multiple programs may need your new address. A coordinated change reduces the risk of missed correspondence about benefits, licences, and tax documents. This workflow tracks which authorities you have asked us to notify and the effective date you requested.

Each organization applies its own processing time. You remain responsible for updating any issuer we do not list or that requires a separate web form.

Residential versus mailing address

Your residential address determines eligibility for some provincial programs. A post office box may be acceptable for mailing but not as proof of residence where a street address is required. If you maintain a secondary residence for work or study, declare facts accurately; misrepresentation can affect benefits and legal status reviews.

Elections, banking, and utilities

Elections Canada updates are separate from tax and immigration notifications; students should list all three in migration checklists. Banks, credit cards, and utilities use their own portals—this workflow does not replace them, but your real-life move calendar should include due dates for each.

Change of address — many registries, one citizen

CRA cares about tax correspondence and benefit eligibility; IRCC cares about immigration notices; ServiceOntario updates health cards and driver products; Elections Canada maintains the voters list. None of these automatically sync on the same day.

Banks, utilities, and employers add parallel updates. A training flow should show sequencing, deadlines, and proof-of-address documents—not imply a single magical submit button.

Cross-border moves may end provincial health eligibility and trigger waiting periods elsewhere; pair with Provincial health card and Travel and health.

Security: address change is a classic account-takeover vector—pair with two-factor authentication when teaching verification.
